The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated every 17th of May to mark the establishment of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in 1865 in commemorating the first International Telegraph Convention signed in Paris. In this regard, the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry, AITI held a Doa Kesyukuran ceremony yesterday morning.
Present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development who is also the Acting Minister of Transport and Infocommunications. The ceremony began with a mass Sunat Hajat prayer, followed by the reading of Surah Yaasin and Tahlil as well as Doa Kesyukuran. Also present was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, the Deputy Minister of Energy (Energy and Manpower) and Industry as Chairman of AITI.
During the ceremony, 25 orphans from area one of Kampung Perpindahan Lambak Kanan received donations presented by Yang Berhormat. The contributions were collected from the members, officers and staffs of AITI. Also handing over the donation were Radin Sufri bin Radin Basiuni, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of DST and Dayang Hajah Normah binti Ahmad, PCSB Government Relations Manager.
Meanwhile, the Perpindahan Lambak Kanan mosque received endowments for the mosque's use. The endowments were handed over by Yang Berhormat to Awang Haji Abdul Malik bin Haji Jumat, the mosque Imam. Also presenting the endowments were Sheikh Haji Abas bin Sheikh Haji Mohammad, the President of InfoCom Federation Brunei and the PCSB Government Relations Manager.
