The Royal Brunei Armed Forces is sending its personnel to join the 3rd Independent Decommissioning Body Verification, Monitoring and Assistance Team, IDB VMAT in the Republic of the Philippines next week. Prior to their departure to Mindanao on the 16th of the month, a 'Doa Selamat ceremony was held yesterday afternoon for the 4 RBAF personnel who will join the international team. The ceremony took place at Ad-Dhifa Surau in Bolkiah Garrison.
The function was attended by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Second Minister of Defence. Also present was Major General Udara Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat, Commander of the RBAF and Retired Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Shahril Anwar bin Haji Ma'awiah, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence. Doa Selamat was led by Awang Zulfadly bin Haji Awang, Imam of Ad-Dhifa Surau. IDB VMAT is a step forward in the peace process in Mindanao in the Republic of the Philippines to oversee the process of decommissioning of forces and weapons. The leader of the RBAF contingent Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Shalleh bin Haji Ismail said it is a valuable and important opportunity. He added there much knowledge to gain in working together with officers of other nations in the team in an area or situation of conflict.
