Members of the public who own dogs aged three months and above are required to obtain a licence or dog tag for their pets every year. In a statement the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board said the registration should be made before the 1st of February for new dogs or expired licences.
All registered or licensed dogs must have a special tag from the Kuala Belait and Seria Municpial Department that should be attached to the dog’s collar. The pets should be kept in a kennel or cage and should always remain within the house compound. Dogs Act, Chapter 60, Section (4) and (5)
It is an offence under Section (4) and (5) of the Dogs Act, Chapter 60 when dog owners fail to register their pets and court action could be taken against them. If found guilty, the owner could face a 250 dollar fine or a 14-day imprisonment. Dog owners who have the special tag but fail to attach it to their pets can also be sentenced to a 250-dollar fine or 1 month imprisonment if found guilty.
According to the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board, the dog licence or tag for 2019 can be obtained at the Payment Counter of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department’s building in Jalan Mackerron, Kuala Belait. The counters are open from Monday to Thursday, from at 7.30 in the morning until 12 noon, and from 1.30 to 3.30 in the afternoon. Meanwhile on Saturday, the counters are open from 8 to 10 in the morning.
