Ease Users Movement

34 of the existing steel bridges need to be upgraded to Concrete Bridges to ensure the safety and convenience of users. The implementation of upgrade projects is expected to ease movement, especially at low-lying and flood prone areas, including rural areas.

There are 34 steel bridges throughout the country under the Ministry of Development’s plan to be upgraded to concrete bridges. Currently, the Brunei Bridge Authority, Public Works Department has upgraded 8 steel bridges to concrete bridges under the 11th National Development Plan. The projects are implemented for two bridges in Brunei Muara District, two bridges in Belait District and another four bridges at Tutong District. Awang Mohammad Safwan bin Aba, Engineer at the Public Works Department said the implementation of the project proved the government’s commitment in providing infrastructure development towards improving a safe and comfortable road communication system.
