Tourism sector is one of the economic sectors that can contribute to the country's economic development and generates employment. According to the statistics from the Tourism Development Department, the country's tourism industry in 2017 has recorded an increase of 18 point 3 percent of international tourists' arrival to Brunei Darussalam via Brunei International Airport, compared to 2016.
Travel agents are among the stakeholders that play an important role in developing the tourism sector by offering various interesting package for domestic tourism.
China recorded the second highest tourist arrivals into the country in 2017, after Malaysia, contributing 52 thousand 391 tourist. Among the factors contributing to the increase of tourist arrivals is the improvement in travel facilities including introduction of visa-on-arrival and double entry visa to the citizens of the People's Republic of China since the 1st of May 2016.
Stakeholders in tourism industry such as airlines and travel agent need to work together to increase the number of tourist arrival into the country by improving the tourism products as well as tour package offered.
To reach the target of 450 thousand tourist arrival by 2020, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through travel agents will enhance its efforts to further improve the tourism products.
