Bandar seri begawan: The Electricity tariff for the commercial sector has been reviewed. The matter was shared by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence, in his Ministerial remarks at the First Meeting of the 22nd Session of the Legislative Council sitting on 17th March 2026.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the current tariff for the commercial sector has been revised from 'regressive' to 'progressive'. This change aims to encourage prudent energy use and support the financing of the growing energy system. The revised tariff structure is designed to ensure energy security, strengthen investor confidence, and attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the country.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, also highlighted the matter in his statement on the 2026/2027 Financial Year budget at the First Meeting of the 22nd Session of the Legislative Council sitting on 14th March 2026. The implementation of the progressive electricity tariff for the commercial sector is proposed for 2028.
