Emergency Call Statistics

The Fire and Rescue Department received 4,542 emergency calls nationwide from January to September 2021. 119 emergency calls were received for structure fires in all districts.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department also received 41 emergency calls involving house and building fires with estimated loss of over 12 million dollars.

In this regard, the Fire and Rescue Department has implemented a number of initiatives in tackling and reducing rate of loss due to fire by organising the Public Awareness Programme and awarding the Communities Excellence Award.

The Fire and Rescue Department also advised the public to equip their home or premise with fire extinguisher. If there is any leak on the LPG component, open windows and door for ventilation. The public is also advised not to leave cooking unattended; not to overload; and electrical wiring maintenance must be done by certified companies.

The Fire and Rescue Department also recorded 528 emergency calls involving fallen trees, flood, blown out roofs, and landslides from January to 6th of November 2021. The public is advised to always be vigilant and cautious during uncertain weather conditions.

Programmes such as the Fire Marshal and Life Saver 995 courses as well as Fire Safety briefing are also held to increase knowledge on the dangers of fire, safety during emergency, and proper techniques on using fire extinguishers.
