Face Charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act

The High Court has set Wednesday, 6th of February for further mention of the case involving former Judicial Officers, Ramzidah binti Pehin Datu Kesuma Diraja Retired Colonel Haji Abdul Rahman, the first defendant and Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin, the second defendant. The case was mentioned in the High Court yesterday morning by the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Datu Juragan Laila Diraja (Retired) Colonel Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Kefli, who exercised his function as a Judge pursuant to Section 29 (1) of the Supreme Court Act, Chapter 5.

However, the court has adjourned the case because the Presiding Judge, The Honourable Justice Gareth Lugar-Mawson is on medical leave. As such, the case was adjourned to 6th February 2019 at 9.00 am for further mention. During a pre-trial conference on the 16th of last month, Ramzidah, who was formerly the Deputy Official Receiver of the Bankruptcy Office, was charged for offences of criminal breach of trust by a public servant for allegedly misappropriating over 7 million dollars between 2004 and 2017. Her husband, Haji Nabil, was formerly a Senior Magistrate at the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrates Court. The husband and wife are jointly facing charges of money laundering, related to the transfers of 500 thousand dollars made from the Official Receiver's bank account to their own personal joint account. The couple is also facing charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, for possessing assets not corresponding to their income as public servants. Among the assets seized is a long list of luxury vehicles worth 3.2 million dollars.
