Farewell Visit and Courtesy Visit

The Speaker of the Legislative Council yesterday received a farewell visit from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam and a courtesy visit from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam. The functions were held at the Department of Councils of State, Jalan Dewan Majlis.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib first received a farewell visit from His Excellency Vladlen Semivolos, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Brunei Darussalam. During the visit, both sides expressed their appreciation on close ties and cooperation between both countries. Among the matters touched were the success of the working visit from the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Both countries also hoped to further enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of education, defence and health, apart from enhancing and strengthening the relations between the two sides.

The Speaker of the Legislative Council then received a courtesy visit from Her Excellency Yu Hong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam. It was the first official meeting for both sides. The visit among other things discussed the effects of strategic relations between both countries towards Brunei Darussalam's economic development, such as the increasing arrivals of Chinese tourists to the country. Both sides also touched on the increasing bilateral trade resulting from cooperation among the private sectors, which has further expanded the country's economy. Both sides also expressed the hope that the bilateral relations will continue to develop. Also in attendance were Dayang Rose Aminah binti Haji Ismail, Acting Clerk to the Legislative Council and senior officers at the Department of Councils of State.
