The climax of the Finals of National Al-Quran Reading Musabaqah for Adults was the prizes presentation ceremony to winners and participants. His Majesty consented to present the prizes.
Upon arrival at the International Convention Centre, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Dipertua Of Adat Istiadat Negara, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, as Chairman of the Major Islamic Events Celebration Executive Committee and Chairman of the National Musabaqah Al-Quran for Adults 1439 Hijrah/2018 Executive Committee, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, State Mufti, and Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom Bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs as well as other committee members.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brothers, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah.
The ceremony began with a presentation of Al-Quran verses read by Sheikh Ahmad bin Yusuf Al-Azhari, an invited qari and juror from Bangladesh, The Champion of the Dubai International Quran Reading Competition In 2011.
In his welcoming speech, the Minister of Religious Affairs among other things touched on various programs provided by his ministry in improving the quality of the reading of the participants. Yang Berhormat Pehin said several programmes continue to take place regularly in the learning of Tarannum or melodic reading of Al-Quran and to enhance the skills of the Quran readers. They include the Tarannum Al-Quran Workshop and Young Quran Readers Course organised by the Islamic Eminence Development Section, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Tarannum Al-Quran Course which is supervised by Al-Quran Studies and Dissemination Centre of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute. The guidance has produced national champions, second and third place winners at International musabaqah.
In announcing the musabaqah's result, Awang Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Chairman of the Jury of the competition touched on the this year's quality achievements of qaris and qariahs compared to previous years, which there has been a slight decrease in the marks recorded by the participants. This is because a number of them are new for such a big event.
Awang Haji Muhd Fikri bin Haji Awang Metussin was announced as the Champion Qari of this year's National Musabaqah Al-Quran for Adults. Aged 32, Awang Haji Muhd Fikri bin Haji Awang Metussin represented the country at several International Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran such as in the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2015, and in Sumatra, Indonesia in 2014.
Meanwhile, champion qariah was Dayang Hajah Nurfaezah binti Haji Emran. Aged 34, Dayang Hajah Nurfaezah binti Haji Emran brought fame to the country when she placed second at the International Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2010.
His Majesty presented prizes to the winners and participants of the competition. The Champion qari received a challenge trophy, a cash prize of seven thousand dollars, pure gold weighing 40 grams worth Two Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars donated by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei, TAIB, Insuran Islam TAIB and Darussalam Holding Sendirian Berhad; an embroidered cloth donated by Little Ummi Company as well as a participation certificate.
The Runner-Up, qari - Awang Mohammad Zul-Hafiz bin Awang Tengah received five thousand dollars in cash, a prize and certificate. Awang Mohammad bin Ali came third received three thousand dollar cash prize, a prize and certificate.
The champion qariah received a challenge trophy, seven thousand dollars cash prize, pure gold weighing 40 grams worth Two Thousand Seven Hundred Dollars donated by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei, TAIB, Insuran Islam TAIB and Darussalam Holding Sendirian Berhad; a Brunei embroidered scarf donated by Little Ummi Company as well as a participation certificate.
Second place went to DayangKu Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri who received a cash prize of five thousand dollars, a prize and certificate.
While Dayang Siti Nurnabilah binti Retired Major Haji Abd Rahman won the third place and received three thousand dollar cash prize, a prize and certificate. The champions will represent the country at the International Tilawah Al-Quran competition to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 7th to 12th May this year.
His Majesty also presented souvenirs to the Jury of the competition. To bless the ceremony, a doa selamat was read by the State Mufti.
With its new age requirements, which is not be less than 18 and not more than 40 years, the 58th Musabaqah has produced young and talented participants. Five of the twelve participants who competed in this year's Musabaqah were first timers at the national finals. The Youth Al-Quran Reading Scheme is among the efforts made by the Islamic Studies Section in making the learning and studying of Al-Quran can be accessed easily and widely as well as appreciated by the muslim community.
