First Mushaf Fully Written By Locals

Besides being a topic of leisure conversation and a landmark of accomplishments by Sultan Sharif 'Ali Islamic University, UNISSA, the Mushaf UNISSA is also intended as a source of blessings and symbol of Islam's glory in the country. Mushaf UNISSA is the first one to be fully written by Bruneians.

The Writing of Mushaf UNISSA Project was officially launched by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the 24th of October 2011 during the Official Launching Ceremony of Mushaf UNISSA Writing and 1st Convocation of UNISSA. His Majesty began the writing of the Mushaf by writing Basmalah on the Ummul Kitab.

At the beginning, the Mushaf was written by Wan Habib bin Wan Ibrahim until his passing away on the 8th of February 2015. The work was completed by Muhammad Riziman bin Haji Usin. Carrying out the writing of the Mushaf became the main responsibility of UNISSA in upholding His Majesty's titah that called on all institutions of higher learning in the country to have Mushafs which are hand-written by locals. According to the Monarch this would give a unique image to the country and place it alongside other Muslim nations that produce their own hand-written Mushafs.

The writing of Mushaf UNISSA is based on the reader friendly concept with emphasis on clear spelling and readability. The Mushaf also has a special uniqueness. Each page is adorned with decorative calligraphy and the page frames are the creative products of highly trained and skilled Bruneians. Thorough checking and proof-reading of the Mushaf were carried out by a Committee comprising Huffaz or Memorisers of Al-Quran, as well as local and international Al-Quran and Qiraat experts. Mushaf UNISSA is the clearest evidence of UNISSA's endeavours in elevating Al-Quran as the source of knowledge and enlightenment in this world and the Hereafter.
