Fish Farming in Cages

The Fisheries Industry production is expected to increase with breeding activities by local companies. Among the local companies is Bru Agro Agriculture Sendirian Berhad, which targets the production of 15 thousand fish this year.

Located at Kampung Sungai Teraban, Belait District, Bru Agro Agriculture Sendirian Berhad began its fish farming in cages project in September 2020 with 4 thousand sea bass and 9 thousand crabs. Initially, the company owned by Awang Haji Abdul Shawal bin Yaman planned to open 100 cages but had to cancel due to several factors such as water and weather conditions.

Although the company failed to achieve the initial target, it was able to rear its first produce. With the help of the Fisheries Department, the local company strives to develop by taking courses locally and abroad. Following the encouraging demand, Bru Agro Agriculture aims to produce 15 thousand fish this year.

The rising involvement of local entrepreneurs in the fish farming industry will increase the volume of fishery products and guarantee food security.
