Forest Management Presentation

In a presentation titled ‘Managing Forest Biodiversity for Its Economic Value Brunei Darussalam’s Perspective’, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism highlighted that tropical forests cover 72% of Brunei Darussalam’s land area while protected forests cover 41% of the land area.

Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab said Brunei Darussalam practices Sustainable Forest Management. This complies with the Convention of Biological Diversity and United Nations Sustainable Development 2030 as well as in line with Brunei Vision 2035. She added that indirect use values of Brunei’s tropical forests chiefly as carbon sink, as well as other ecological services, are equally important in making Brunei a leader in the global green community.

The conference also showcased various research papers from local and international experts and researchers via virtually. The two-day conference aims to create Research and Development opportunities in the field of forestry, biodiversity and conservation, and act as a platform to share information.
