Get-Together with Citizens and Residents of Brunei Darussalam and the Conferment of UBD Scholarship ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam graced a Get-Together Ceremony with citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, especially students who are currently in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the conferment of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Scholarship ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’. Accompanying Their Majesties were Their Majesties sons and daughters, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah;

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen;

– His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel;

– Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; and

– Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah

Upon arrival at London Hilton on Park Lane, His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were greeted by Pengiran Hajah Rooslina Weti binti Pengiran Haji Kamaludin, Acting High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and Awangku Mohammad Hisyam Al-Yura bin Pengiran Haji Zainal Abidin, as well as Dayang Shaima’an Nabielah binti Abdul Rahman, President and Vice President of the Brunei Student’s Union in the United Kingdom and Eire.

Shortly after the arrival, His Majesty, Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family proceeded to the Wellington Ballroom for a High Tea Reception.

Their Majesties were then graciously invited to sign a commemorative parchment before proceeding for a photograph session with senior officers from the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in London as well as the President and Vice President of the Brunei Student’s Union in the United Kingdom and Eire.

This was followed by a photography session with the recipients of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Scholarship ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’ and their respective family.

At the Grand Ballroom, the Get-Together Ceremony with citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, especially students who are currently in the United Kingdom and Ireland and the conferment of the UBD Scholarship ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’ commenced with the National Anthem performed by the Brunei Student Cardiff Society and the Brunei Student Religious Society.

The ceremony was followed by the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Awangku Muhamad Aqil bin Pengiran Jaya, student from the Imperial College of London, followed by the reading of the translation by Awang Muhammad Shuib bin Sahralidin, student from Queen’s University Belfast.

To bless the ceremony, the Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr.) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

Awangku Mohammad Hisyam Al-Yura bin Pengiran Haji Zainal Abidin, President of the Brunei Student’s Union in the United Kingdom and Eire, on behalf of citizens and residents, especially students currently studying in United Kingdom and Ireland, conveyed a pledge of unwavering loyalty and allegiance to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

During the ceremony, His Majesty conferred the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Scholarship ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’ for 2018/2019 session to Dayang Adeline Wem Jihn who is studying for a PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford, and Dayang Siti Nurhazimah binti Awang Mahmud who is taking a Master of Science in Advanced Mechanical Engineering at the Imperial College, London.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri then received pasambah both from the President and Vice President of the Brunei Student’s Union in the United Kingdom and Eire.

The ceremony also featured several performances presented by members of the Brunei Student’s Union in the United Kingdom and Eire.

His Majesty, Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family then proceeded to meet and greet more than 1,700 citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam who are currently in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and also students who came from France, government officials as well as those on vacation.

The presence of His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri at the ceremony reflect Their Majesties continuous attentiveness towards the welfare and well-being of the students as well as citizens and residents who are currently in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The ceremony is also an opportunity for them to interact closely with Their Majesties, which will motivate the students to succeed in their studies and at the same time, preserving their identity as Bruneians whose customs and traditions are enriched by the Malay Islamic Monarchy concept.
