The involvement of youths and non-governmental organisations, N.G.Os in the efforts to tackle poverty in the country was commended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin expressed his appreciation in an interview with RTB during the Scot Grant Award Ceremony for participants of the Youth Against Poverty workshop or YAP. The function took place yesterday morning at Progresif Cellular Sendirian Berhad Headquarters in Gadong.
According to Yang Berhormat, such a programme shows the commitment of the NGOs, specifically the youth to find ways to reduce poverty in the country. This commitment, the minister added, portrays the idea of collaboration to tackle the issue through Smart Partnership, and not solely depend on the government. The ministry will provide suitable platforms to manage the issue together with NGO's in overcoming any challenges in the country through the whole of government and whole of nation approach.
25 youth were selected to take part in the workshop, and five groups presented their ideas to eradicate poverty in the country. Also present were Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, Legislative Council Member as the judge, and Awang Haji Amer Hamzah bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
