Health Promoting School Initiative Workshop

​Children, especially teenagers, are exposed to the risk factors of non-communicable diseases, NCDs, which will have an impact on their health when they grow up such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes. Among the risk factors of non-communicable diseases identified among children and adolescents are unbalanced diet and lack of physical activity. The United Nations, WHO 2017 study was shared during the Health Promoting School Initiative Workshop for Private Primary and Secondary Schools in Brunei Muara District and Belait District.

 

The workshop among other things aimed to draft an action plan for Health Promoting School that is suitable for students and further respond to and support the achievement of the main goal of the World Health Organization, WHO: Making Every School a Health-Promoting School. The 2-day workshop held until 31st January, was attended by 61 teachers from 35 private schools. With the workshop, the participants had the opportunity to discuss interactively and share their thoughts and experiences to improve the effectiveness of the Health Promoting School model which can be applied to all schools in the country.
