His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah emphasises that the administration of zakat should continue to be empowered and for all methods and strategies for handling it to be updated and refined.
In the titah, His Majesty says the relevant party should strive for a way that will bring a realisation so that zakat recipients can free themselves from poverty. Change, according to His Majesty is without doubt synonym with progress. Hence, His Majesty wishes the wave of change to bring the nation towards progress. The Monarch made the titah during the National Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration last night. In the titah, His Majesty stresses that zakat is not simply an obligation but also one of the five Pillars of Islam. His Majesty adds the system of zakat spending, collection and distribution originated from Al-Quran and Al-Hadith as a method of economic management for the Muslim Ummah.
