His Majesty Message in Conjunction with ASEAN Day

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah in conjunction with the ASEAN Day says Brunei Darussalam will continue to work with all ASEAN Member States in strengthening ASEAN’s Community-building efforts in promoting lasting peace, security and stability, sustainable development, inclusive economic growth, as well as shared prosperity and social progress in the region. In the titah, His Majesty says this year marks the 55th Anniversary since the establishment of ASEAN, and ASEAN Day marks the occasion to celebrate achievements and contemplate on the future of the Association as we strive to realise a people-oriented, people-centred ASEAN. ASEAN Day is celebrated every 8th of August.

Despite the challenges the region faced over the years, from the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to geopolitical competition, His Majesty states ASEAN will continue to work closely amongst its member states and external partners to advance the region’s recovery and continued development for the peace and prosperity of all its people.

With only a few years before ASEAN achieves its Community Vision 2025, the Monarch says it is important to continue to uphold ASEAN Centrality and unity, so that all ASEAN moves forward harmoniously into the future together.

This can be realised through close cooperation and coordination where we are able to address challenges and take advantage of opportunities that may arise for our mutual benefit.

In this regard, Brunei Darussalam fully supports Cambodia and its works as ASEAN Chairman this year under the theme of “ASEAN: Addressing Challenges Together”.

His Majesty in the titah states that Brunei Darussalam will continue to work with all ASEAN Member States in strengthening ASEAN’s Community-building efforts in promoting lasting peace, security and stability, sustainable development, inclusive economic growth, as well as shared prosperity and social progress in the region.

Looking ahead, Brunei Darussalam is ready to work with other ASEAN Member States in setting the direction to chart the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision, whereby the region will be characterised by strong neighbourly relations, closer friendship and cooperation that prioritises regional peace and security, including the well-being and livelihoods of its people. In ending the message, His Majesty wishes to all people of ASEAN and for the continued efforts towards a bright future for the region and its people.
