His Majesty Unscheduled Working Visit

During the unscheduled visit, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam visited the Ministry of Development and several departments under the Ministry in Berakas.

Upon arrival His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Engineer Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, the Minister of Development and Dato Seri Paduka Architect Awang Haji Marzuke Bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Minister of Development. Also present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy.

Among the Division that visited by His Majesty was the Division of Boards Management which among other matters plays a role in coordinating the registration for Architect Board, Professional Engineer and Quantity Surveyor; Examiner Board and Real Estate Agent; and Housing Development Board. This division also reviewing and managing the qualification and practices records, and upholding the ethics and discipline for three boards.

The Ministry of Development is the pioneer that is responsible for land use sectors, provision of infrastructure and environment, aside from preserving and upgrading the government assets. All these to support the objective of Wawasan Brunei 2035, specifically to generate a high quality of life.

Ministry of Development has underlined six main strategies under the Ministry's strategic direction 2018-2023 which focuses toward the achievement in providing the best services specifically in improving the life quality of people in line with the efforts in making contribution towards the country's economic growth through development and construction industry.

Ministry of Development also responsible in supporting the Digital Economy Council towards the country's desire as a 'Smart Nation'. Towards this, the Ministry of Development currently reviewing its strategic plan in making the Ministry as a 'Smart MOD' by identifying the provided services which can be integrated and digitalize to facilitate the application process.

From the Ministry of Development, His Majesty then visited the Land Department, Department of Town and Country Planning and Survey Department which are placed under one building. His Majesty first visit the Land Department which is one of the oldest government department in the country. The department's main function is to process the application of private lands and Temporary Occupancy License for Brunei Muara District; land registration after receiving approval from the Cabinet Ministers Meeting Council, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development, Land Commissioner and Head of the District Land Office and collecting tax revenue.

His Majesty then reviewed the Land Management and Alienation Section, Land Valuation Section; Application and Land Use Section and, Enforcement and Control Section. With its vision, Optimal Land Utilisation, the department will ensure that the land use and planning are at optimal to balance the needs of the National Socio-Economic Development.

His Majesty then visited the Department of Town and Country Planning. The department is responsible in providing plans as basic or guideline for land use distribution coordination for various sectors of socio-economic development which are required in upholding the aspiration of Wawasan Negara 2 Ribu 35.

At the Survey Department, His Majesty then reviewed the Mapping Geospatial Division which the division is responsible to produce, updating and provide house numbering and road junction which involves all district in the country.

His Majesty ended the unscheduled visit to the Housing Development Department. The department is responsible to plan, design, implementing and preserving the national housing scheme. His Majesty's visit aimed to ensure that the Ministry of Development and the departments under it aware on the issues faced by the government of His Majesty aside from strive to achieve the Ministry's and the departments' vision and mission.
