His Majesty Watched the Setia Kawan III Exercise

At the Binturan Shooting Range, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam watched the Third Setia Kawan Exercise.

Upon arrival at the Binturan Shooting Range Helipad, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Second Minister of Defence and Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the RBAF.

Before the commencement of the Amphibious Landing and Attack Demonstration, Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat was read by Major Ariffin bin Amit, Acting head of the RBAF Religious Department.

His Majesty then watched the combined amphibious landing demonstration, followed by an attack from personnel and assets of the RBAF together with the British Armed Forces.

The Setia Kawan Exercise is one of the series of exercises between the RBAF and the British Armed Forces. The first exercise was conducted in 1988 and the second in 1997. It was aimed at promoting defence diplomacy as well as enhancing bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom aside from enhancing cooperation and understanding between Brunei Darussalam and the United Kingdom specifically through military exercises.

Aside from that, it enhances interoperability between the RBAF units and the British Armed Forces as well as experience sharing in conducting amphibious landing exercises by coordinating multiple elements besides amphibious landing, while adapting to unpredictable threats at a beach front.

The exercise included a static and assets exhibition including armoured vehicles from the Amphibious Beach Unit of the United Kingdom Royal Marines Commando.

His Majesty then rode the “Vikings” vehicle. The assault vehicle acts as a support unit for the army infantry units advancing against the enemy, destroying their fortresses and defence locations of terrorist groups.

His Majesty then proceeded to a Luncheon.

Doa was read by Major Ariffin bin Amit, Acting Head of the RBAF Religious Department.

At the Setia Kawan gallery, His Majesty viewed the exhibition showcasing a number of newspaper clippings on previous Setia Kawan exercises.

His Majesty then received pesambah and signed a poster.

Prior to departure, the Monarch signed a commemorative parchment.

The bilateral military exercise plays a vital role towards the skills development and enhancement of the Brunei Darussalam as well as the United Kingdom military personnel. The third Setia Kawan Exercise shows the capabilities of the two militaries in sharing the coordination of amphibious exercises.
