Towards providing exposure to local khat or jawi calligraphy writers at the regional and international levels, the Language and Literature Bureau yesterday morning held a Khat or Islamic Calligraphy Workshop in conjunction with this year's Language Month. The 4-day workshop took place at the Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas.
The workshop was officially opened by Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of Language and Literature Bureau. 22 participants took part in the workshop which was conducted by local facilitator, Awang Haji Alias bin Haji Gafar, former Senior Jawi Calligraphy Writer. The workshop module focuses on the Diwani Othmani Calligraphy, which aimed to give opportunity to the participants to gain knowledge and enhance skills in jawi writing.
