The problem of local workers placed at Pulau Muara Besar was among the interesting issues deliberated in the First Meeting of the 14th Legislative Council Session, which enters its fourth day yesterday. Apart from that, the project to set-up the Brunei Darussalam stock exchange was also among the issues deliberated by the Ministry of Finance in the ministry's budget proposal for the Financial Year 2018/2019. On the issue of stalls that are being set up at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, the Minister of Home Affairs stated that the government will provide a specific area for kiosks in Bandar Seri Begawan. According to Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, it is hoped that the design of the kiosks can complement the beauty of Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas. The query was raised by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon.
The Minister of Home Affairs said an offer for kiosk sales and management at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas has been opened for tender on the 22nd of January 2018 and ended last month. Yang Berhormat added that the ministry has received a good response, and once the process of reviewing the tenders has been completed, those who are successful can start their business at the kiosks. This means that there IS no specific area for vendor stalls at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas. The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department only allows vendors to set up their stalls at a specific time and place only, such as during the Bandarku Ceria programme and festivities in the capital. The Ministry will also explore other business methods such as the use of food trucks in the future. This is one of the measures towards ensuring cleanliness, and maintaining the public's safety and well-being.
