Touching on empowering Arabic Language learning at Arabic Schools as voiced by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Abd Wahab bin Apong, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs explained that the Ministry of Religious Affairs through the Islamic Studiesn Department has updated the Arabic Language curriculum for Year 5 until Year 8, by emphasising on communication skills among the students. Apart from that, the Islamic Studies Department will continue to improve the Arabic Language teaching staff's efficacy at all religious and Arabic Schools nationwide.
Yang Berhormat said in order to improve teacher's competency, all Arabic Language teachers at religious and Arabic schools should undergo Arabic language education seminar, and take part in all courses including the 10-week Arabic Language teaching course organised by the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College. Apart from that, a number of initiatives and co-curriculum activities as well as programmes for the students have been held such as the "Hayya bil 'Arabiyyah" programme that encouraged the use of Arabic Language in quizzes, conversations, acting and choral speaking. Other programmes include the Arabic Language debate for Secondary Arabic Schools and the Al-Quran Tahfiz Institute, and the "Masrahiah Arabiyyah" competition for Religious and Arabic Schools nationwide. Efficacy improvement of Arabic teacher's teaching methods should at least achieve the third highest level in the Teachers Performance Appraisal based on the Brunei Teachers Standard, and eventually, will enhance the total achievement which is currently at 65 point 2-3 percent. Apart from that, the Islamic Studies Department and the school management team will also continue to monitor the teacher's Arabic Language.
