The special position of blood donors was among issues discussed by the Council yesterday. According to the Minister of Health, his ministry has allocated a number of benefits to blood donors based on the Ministry of Health Payment Scheme 1998 Edition which are not only for the country’s citizens and residents but also for foreign nationals. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar explained this in response to the query raised by Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Tahamit bin Haji Nudin on the incentives given to blood donors.
The Minister explained that regular blood donors who donate blood more than twice a year are entitled to the following benefits for one year of not more than 60 days admission in a year. First is ward admissions will be charged at 50 percent of the full rate. Secondly, surgery, medical treatment and check-ups at a 50 percent discount. Those who have donated for 30 times are entitled to aforementioned benefits for a life-long period and for citizens, permanent residents as well as government employees, free personal ward admission for a life-long period depending on bed availability. And thirdly, champion donors, those who have donated blood for 50 times or more, are entitled to all the benefits mentioned for a life-long period.
