Issue on Installation of Traffic Lights

Touching on the flyover at the junction of the Mentiri main road, the Minister of Development explained that the second phase of its construction will be carried out under the Eleventh National Development Plan in order to traffic congestion at the National Housing Scheme area. According to the Minister of Development, plan to construct Tanah Jambu link road from the Jalan Muara junction to the junction of Mentiri main road, is included in the road planning and implemented in phases according to the allocation provided. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, explained the matter in response to a query raised by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman.

According to the Minister of Development, the first phase of the construction of flyover at the junction of the Mentiri main road has completed in 2014. Meanwhile, the second phase of the two-kilometre link road has been included in the planning under the Eleventh National Development Plan and the construction of special lane from the flyover en route the Mengkubau National Housing Scheme. Tender for the project has been completed and its implementation will commence in the middle of this year. The installation of traffic lights require a big size roundabout and large area. Whilst the Mentiri roundabout is not big enough for the installation of traffic lights. If renovation is to be carried out it will involve private houses and lands as well as the evacuation of other services. The project will require high cost, as such, the traffic lights installation proposal at the Mentiri roundabout is currently cannot be carried out. With the completion of the planned project the traffic congestion issue in the area can be overcome.
