To update and strengthen data as well as statistic collection are among the strategies of the National Road Safety Council towards tackling road safety issues. This was stated by Yang Berhormat Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Minister of Communications in response to a query raised by Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash'ari, on road accidents involving vehicles and animals. According to Yang Berhormat, since 2010 to 2017, there is a significant increase in the number of road accidents.
Statistics in 2010 showed that were 15 reported cases of road accidents involving vehicles and animals. In the period of 5 years, such cases has jumped to 23 cases, in 2016 it increased to 43 cases and in 2017, it rose to 54 cases. The National Road Safety Council always pay serious attention to all matters related to road safety, especially those involving fatalities or serious injuries. In this matter, the National Road Safety Council welcomes cooperation from various parties including the private sector, non-government organisations as well as volunteers in together tackling road safety issues in general. Yang Berhormat added that currently, the National Road Safety Council has created a number of strategies to further improve the efforts to address road safety issues. This include: Update and strengthen the collection of data and statistics via data analytics; and Improve collaboration with the private sector, non-government organisations as well as volunteers.
