Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, AMBD, continues to monitor unlicensed money lending activities in the country. In response to the query raised by Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash'ari, on the issue, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs explained some of the measures that have been taken by AMBD in tackling the matter.
AMBD will continue to collaborate with relevant enforcement agencies specifically the Royal Brunei Police Force in investigating any individuals or companies suspected of conducting unlicensed money lending activities. AMBD will also, from time to time, publish an alert list on its website, listing down any individuals or companies suspected of carrying out unlicensed financial activities including unlicensed money lending activities. AMBD has and will continue to raise the public's awareness through financial literacy programmes such as roadshows and awareness information publication in mass and social media, aimed at reminding the public not to be gullible and fall victim to unlicensed financial activities and the risks related to it. In this regard, the public is advised to always be cautious so that they do not become involved in such activities. Any complaints can be directed to AMBD or report directly to the police.
