Joint Press Statement of the Sixth ASEAN-China Ministerial Meeting on SPS Cooperation

In a joint statement from The Sixth ASEAN - China Ministerial Meeting on reinforcing cooperation on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) held in Ha Noi, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, the attending ministers reaffirmed their commitment towards enhancing cooperation under the current ASEAN-China MOU cooperation and are tasked for implementing a new MOU for signing in 2 thousand 21.

The meeting was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The Ministers commended the Contact Points and the Technical Working Groups for progress on the implementation of Plan of Action for 2017-2018, including the implementation of capacity building activities and exchange of officials to promote inspection and quarantine procedures.

Furthermore, the ministers also supported efforts in strengthening the SPS ASEAN-CHINA's website to facilitate exchange and communication of information. The ministers also approved the plan of action for 2019-2020, covering the area of food safety, plant and animal inspection and quarantine. This includes establishment of information notification and communication system and exchange visits of officers. The next meeting will be held in China in year 2020.
