Brunei Darussalam participated in the July Plastic Free campaign, a global community initiative first introduced in 2011 by the Plastic Free Foundation. In conjunction with the Plastic Free campaign for July, the Ministry of Development through the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation has disseminated and extended the Every Day without Plastic Bags Initiative to the stalls in collaboration with the Big BWN Project. The campaign which starts at the Pasarneka and Tamu Tutong Complex was also supported by the Tutong Municipal Department, Ministry of Home Affairs and Data Stream Digital Sendirian Berhad, DST.
Among those taking part in the campaign was Dayang Martinah binti Haji Tamit, Acting Director of the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation. During the campaign, Every Day without Plastic Bags Initiative Posters were handed over to Awang Haji Azmi bin Haji Abdul Rahim, Chairman of the Tutong Municipal Board. 300 reusable bags were distributed to customers and visitors of the Pasarneka and Tamu Tutong Complex. The initiative to extend Every Day without Plastic Bags to Grocery Stores, Restaurants and Stalls is being implemented in stages. The participating organisations launched the campaign on social media on the 1st of July. The public is encouraged to participate by uploading photos and videos on social media along with #zerowastebrunei, #BringYourOwnReusables #PlasticFree_BN in together disseminate awareness about the campaign.
