The International Day of Older Persons is celebrated every 1st of October. To commemorate the celebration and as an appreciation for the deeds and contributions of senior citizens to nation development, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Community Development Department, JAPEM, this morning organised a Kesyukuran ceremony simultaneously nationwide. For the Brunei Muara District, the kesyukuran ceremony was held at Ash-Shaliheen Mosque.
Present was Awang Haji Amer Hamzah bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The reading of surah Yaasin, Tahlil and Doa Kesyukuran was led by Awang Haji Nordin bin Durahman, Religious Teacher of the Welfare Home Complex. The function was highlighted with a short talk titled “Meniti Kehidupan ke Alam Persinggahan Sementara” delivered by Doctor Andas Haji Ismuhadi bin Haji Abdullah, from the Islamic Dakwah Centre. The talk touched on Allah Subahanahu Wataala’s aim in not stating the age that a person dies so that they can increase their religious deeds in order to face death at any time. This year’s celebration theme is Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions.
In the Tutong District, a similar Kesyukuran ceremony was attended by Awang Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain, Tutong District Officer and Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit, Legislative Council member. The reading of surah Yasin was followed by a Tahlil and Doa Kesyukuran led by Awang Haji Hamaffi bin Mohd Yussin, Chairman of the centre’s working committee. Meanwhile, a Tazkirah or short talk titled “Meraikan Hak Asasi Warga Emas” or Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions was delivered by Haji Anwari bin Haji Rawi, which touched on giving honour and priority to the rights of senior citizens as well as reminding them to take advantage of their remaining years by carrying out charitable activities as well as social activities that can contribute to the development of the society, race, religion and country.
In the Temburong District, the function was attended by Awang Mohammad Khairul Shahrul bin Haji Duahim, Acting Temburong District Officer. After the reading of surah Yaasin, Tahlil and doa kesyukuran, a tazkirah titled “Rebutlah Lima Perkara Sebelum Datang Lima Perkara” was delivered by Awang Haji Safrillah bin Haji Ahmad, Mosque Affairs Officer, Mohammad Salleh Main Mosque in Bangar Town. Among the contents touched upon was about the five golden opportunities which must be taken advantage of before the coming of five matters. The opportunity given must be used to perform religious deeds so that every goodness in the world will yield benefits in the hereafter.
For the Belait District, present at the function was Awang Haji Pungut bin Ali, Penghulu of Mukim Kuala Belait. The reading of surah yassin, tahlil and doa kesyukuran was led by Awang Haji Haslan bin Haji Shahbudin, Mosque Affairs Officer of the District. The function was highlighted with a tazkirah titled, Appreciate time.
