Laksamana College of Business' support in providing hospitality management courses and as the pioneer institution in providing the Tourist Guide Training Courses in the last 2 years have increased the value and appreciation of the hospitality and tourism industry which is in line with Wawasan Brunei 2035 that is to produce highly skilled and highly educated people in the country. Speaking at the Laksamana College of Business 2019 Graduation Ceremony yesterday morning, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism said the college has recently opened culinary school to equip young aspiring chefs with the basics of professional food preparation and best practices that are adopted worldwide, with the aim to produce talented and qualified professionals. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong believed, young Bruneians are more than capable of creating world gastronomical delights and will help push Brunei tourism's agenda on Gastronomy tourism. The function took place at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.
This year 178 graduates for the University of Chester degree programmes have completed the whole course in the college. Among the programmes are degree courses in Management, Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Nine graduates pursuing the Chester program managed to secure 1st Class Honours in the Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Finance and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
In the afternoon, presentation of certificates was held for the University Foundation Course, BTEC Programmes, Kensington College of Business - KCB and City and Guilds Programmes students. More than four hundred students received their certificates including nineteen first intake students of the Culinary School for Level 1 Certificates in Food Preparation and Cooking awarded by City and Guilds. The certificates were presented by Dr. Chris Haslam, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chester, United Kingdom. Also present was Ms Natalie Gowers Barnes, Deputy British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
