His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam paid his last respects to Allahyarham Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Raja Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Awang Abdul Rahman bin Haji Awang Abdul Karim in Kampung Mabohai, yesterday morning. Also in attendance was His Majesty's son, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. Allahyarham Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Raja Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Awang Abdul Rahman passed away at Bangkok Nursing Home, BNH, Thailand, around 11:36 yesterday morning at the age of 76.
His Majesty and His Royal Highness performed the Jenazah prayer led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
During his lifetime, Allahyarham served as Director of Financial Services and Managing Director of Investment Agency. Allahyarham was appointed as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance on the 27th of October 1986 and became the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence on the 31st of December 1991. Upon his retirement with the government, Allahyarham was appointed as Managing Director of Bank Islam Brunei. By the command of His Majesty, Allahyarham was bestowed a Manteri 32 title of 'Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Raja' on the 25th of May 1996. Allahyarham was also bestowed with several State Decorations and Honorary Medals, among them, Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa, Second Class, D.S.L.J; Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa, Third Class, S.L.J and Pingat Jasa Kebaktian, P.J.K. Allahyarham was laid to rest at the Ranggas Cemetery in the capital. Allahyarham is survived by his widow, 4 children and 9 grandchildren.
