His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, in a sabda called on the management of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to look into the possibility of taking the initiative to ensure that any complaint pertaining to the distribution of the Personal Gift of Dates from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, can be handled effectively. His Royal Highness, as Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Board of Governance, urged for Yayasan to explore the need to establish a 'hotline' for receiving complaints from the public as part of efforts towards improving and enhancing the method of distribution. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the launch of the Distribution of His Majesty's Personal Gift of Dates in conjunction with the month of Ramadhan this year. The ceremony was held this afternoon at Chancellor Hall, University Brunei Darussalam.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, State Mufti as the Second Deputy Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Board of Directors, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badarudin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as the Member of the Yayasan Board of Directors, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Second Minister of Defence as the Chairman of the Yayasan Board of Directors and Dato Paduka Awang Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, Managing Director of Yayasan.
The ceremony commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi in his welcoming speech among other things said that the presentation of His Majesty's personal gift of dates portrays the monarch's love and attention on the welfare of his subjects.
In his sabda, His Royal Highness touched on the distribution of His Majesty's personal gift of dates of which there are still complaints that some people did not receive the personal gift. His Royal Highness stressed that this matter should not be occurring as the total number of dates brought in is based on statistics given by Mukim Penghulus and Village Chiefs through the District Offices, which exceeds the country's population.
His Royal Highness then distributed the personal gifts of dates from His Majesty to commanders and commandants of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces as well as Formation Directors and Commanding Officers of the Royal Brunei Police Force. The dates will be given to the Muslim citizens and residents in the country regardless of age and citizenship. Each recipient will receive a 300 gram box of dates.
His Royal Highness also distributed His Majesty's personal gift of dates to Penghulu Mukims and Village Chiefs throughout the country. Penghulus and village chiefs nationwide are entrusted to distribute the personal gift of dates to their respective villagers. To ensure that the distribution of His Majesty's personal gift of dates are carried out accordingly, Yayasan Sultan haji Hassanal Bolkiah has provided the distribution method and special form that will be given through the village chiefs throughout the country. Yayasan hopes all village chiefs and those entrusted with the distribution of the personal gift will follow the distribution method and use the special form provided.
Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
The presentation of His Majesty's personal gift of dates is a manifestation of the ties between a monarch and his subject in upholding the noble desire and intention of His Majesty in giving the dates as a delicacy for breaking the fast in conjunction with the month of Ramadhan. The distribution of the dates is also a charitable deed of His Majesty and the royal family organised by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
