History is very important because through it people can learn about their origins and identity. Hence the publication of the book, “Politik Kesultanan Brunei 1804-1906: Mengharung Badai Rahmat di Pantai” is not solely as a reference material but also enables the people to view and understand the country’s history through a local perspective. Yang Berhormat Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Awang Haji Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim as the President of the Brunei History Association, ‘PESEBAR’ believes the new book is a useful reference material, especially for the country’s students and researchers. The text of Yang Berhormat’s speech was delivered by Dr. Haji Mohd Yusof bin haji Awang Damit, the Deputy President of ‘PESEBAR’ who represented Yang Berhormat during the book’s launch yesterday afternoon.
The book was launched by the President of ‘PESEBAR’. Yang Berhormat’s speech also highlighted that lessons learnt from history can make people wiser and wary in their actions and in making decisions. As the country proceeds in its development and nation building, it is essential to learn history and apply the lessons learnt from it.
Earlier, Associate Professor Doctor Haji Awang Asbol bin Haji Mail, the Co-author of the book also explained the idea to publish the book was realised with the cooperation of its other Co-author, Awang Haji Mohsin bin Abu Bakar. The book describes how the Sultanate of Brunei stood proud and glorious before the 19th Century and how it declined later.
