Launching Ceremony for Veterinary Laboratory

The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, yesterday morning held the Launching Ceremony for the Veterinary Laboratory at Terunjing Agriculture Development Area. Conducted under the Veterinary Laboratory Services Unit, UPMV, which is the Livestock Industry and Veterinary Services Division, Department of Agriculture and AgriFood, the laboratory plays a role in implementing a support programme for animal disease control and food safety of livestock products.

 

The launching was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. With the laboratory, UPMV will be able to increase the types of laboratory tests that are important AND as part of the country’s preparedness in facing possible transmissions of infectious animal diseases. Dayang Hajah Hamsiah binti Mohd Saat, a Senior Livestock Husbandry Officer said the veterinary laboratory is the only National Veterinary Laboratory whose role is to support in the production of the livestock industry and also towards the recognition of the department as a Competent Veterinary Authority. With the new building, it will upgrade the existing Veterinary Laboratory services towards the implementation of requirements for export and further expand the services.
