Launching Of Centre of Excellence for the History and Sultanate of Brunei

The launch of Brunei History Centre as the Centre of Excellence for the History and Sultanate of Brunei is one of the initiatives under the Brunei History Centre’s Action Plan 2021 to 2024. It is in line with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Strategic Plan 2020 to 2024. The launch coincided with the establishment of Brunei History Centre which has reached four decades. Also held was the launch of Resource Collection Room of Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Honorary Professor Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri. The ceremony was held yesterday morning at Borneo Research Centre in Anggerek Desa.

It was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohammad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Earlier, Doctor Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong, Head of Brunei History Centre in his welcoming remarks among others explained on the centre’s achievements and development through the implementation of various research efforts, documentation, publications and historical programmes or project for 41 years.

More than 3,000 personal collections of Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Honorary Professor Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri can be find at the Resource Collection Room. It includes books, manuscripts and reference materials related to the study of the history of the sultanate in the country. The Resource Collection Room is hoped to further improve the facilities for reference and study at the Brunei History Centre, especially the history and Sultanate of Brunei.
