Launching Of Dental Infection Control Symposium 2019

All officers and staff of the Ministry of Health specifically the Dental Services are urged to together provide awareness to the public on mouth healthcare and the risk of cross-infection. This will further enhance the community confidence towards the services provided and will enable the officers and staffs of health services to carry out their duties with excellence and productive. The matter was among highlighted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, the Minister of Health at the Launching ceremony of "Dental Infection Control Symposium 2019" yesterday morning at the Dewan Al-Afiah of the Ministry of Health.

The Minister of Health further explained that among the aspects that needs to be given attention in order to prevent the cross-infection during dental treatment are the use of clean dental tools and 'sterile'. This aspects are very important and dental practitioners need to know the danger of virus infection such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV which can infect from one patient to another if the utensils used are contaminated and was not cleaned. Yang Berhormat added, such infections are main issues that need to be given attention. With the increasingly advanced technological development, the public are always exposed and easily influenced to get dental services from unauthorised and uncertified individual providing dental services through social media. Among the services offered included in-house fake braces by using utensils and instruments, in which the level of hygiene and sterilisation are unknown. Unfortunately, according to the Minister of Health, most of those who obtained services from the so-called dental practitioners end up being given treatment to tackle complications due to incorrect, unorganised and unsterilized dental treatment.

In the ceremony, the Minister of Health also launched a reference book titled 'Dental Infection Control Manual' aims to disseminate information to all officers and staff on the harmful use of unclean and unsterilized tools. This time Symposium carries a theme 'Keep Calm, Safety First' which stresses on the importance of safety while providing dental services to patients. Also present were Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Doctor Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Professional at the Ministry of Health.
