Supermarkets in the country are welcomed to cooperate with importers and distributors in giving continuous support to provide and add various choices of healthy products. The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health urged that supermarkets in the country join in the efforts to empower the public on healthy practices and food choices through roadshows or health-related educational activities such as organising healthy food sales month or campaign and others. Doctor Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif made the call at the launching of the Healthy Supermarket Programme organised by the Health Promotion Centre and T.M. Majeed Supermarket yesterday afternoon.
According to Doctor Haji Zulaidi, such a programme can open the path and give the public the opportunity to increase their knowledge on healthy food choices in general, apart from encouraging a change of mindset as well actions towards healthy lifestyle.
This is the 14th edition since it was launched in 2014. The programme encourages the food industry and local supermarkets to support changes towards healthy eating practices by supplying and providing alternative and healthier food products.
