The Ministry of Development's Internal Audit Unit is urged to enhance efforts in the management of auditing activity programme in the future to be more effective and comprehensive in the efforts to facilitate the Ministry of Development and the departments under it in order to increase the level of accountability and compliance to the existing rules and laws. The matter was voiced by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, the Minister of Development while officiating the Internal Audit Procedure Workshop conducted by the Internal Audit Unit of the Ministry of Development with the cooperation of Audit Department, Prime Minister's Office for Internal Auditors 2019-2020, Ministry of Development. The ceremony took place at the Dewan Betabur of the Ministry of Development.
The Minister of Development believed that the implementation of auditing is not solely to look for mistakes but to give advantages to officers and staff of the Ministry to avoid from non-adherence in carrying out the working processes including finance management affairs and government assets, aside from to identify weaknesses in task implementation governance and respective responsibility. Yang Berhormat added, apart from that, the initiative of Internal Audit Unit of Ministry of Development can contribute towards the cooperation efforts of "Whole of Nation Approach" between the Ministry of Development and Audit Department of the Prime Minister's Office to together collaborate in ensuring the government governance machinery is implemented with the 4E principle, which is "Economy, Efficiency, Effectiveness and Ethic" according to Malay Islamic Monarchy concept.
The ceremony was also filled with a speech from Pengiran Siti Norbayah binti Pengiran Haji Shahminan, the Acting Auditor General, who among other things explained the effectiveness and importance of internal audit. The workshop was held specifically for 85 newly appointed auditors for the year 2019 until 2022. The ceremony ran concurrently with appreciation certificate presentation to 72 internal auditors of the Ministry of Development for the year 2016 to 2019.
