His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented for the establishment of the ‘Republic of Turkey and the Syrian Arab Republic Earthquake Humanitarian Fund’ as well as the Fund’s National Committee. The SMS Brunei Prihatin for the ‘Republic of Turkey and the Syrian Arab Republic Earthquake Humanitarian Fund’ was launched by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister Of Religious Affairs; and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad, Minister Of Culture, Youth And Sports. The launching was held yesterday afternoon at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The Minister of Religious Affairs in his speech, among others, described the establishment of the fund as an outpouring of the humanitarian heart of the people and residents of the country. Earlier, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in his speech said, that preliminary discussions had been held to assess the need for the fund’s establishment.
Jointly organized with Datastream Technology, DST Sendirian Berhad, Progresif Sendirian Berhad and Imagine Sendirian Berhad, the humanitarian fund is one of the efforts to make it easier for people to donate aid. The SMS collection period will last for three months starting yesterday.
A Committee meeting was also held to discuss matters related to efforts to collect donations from citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam. Contributions can be made via donation boxes set up in mosques, suraus and religious halls, banks, business buildings and public buildings nationwide or through the BIBD QuickPay service.
