Legislative Council Is In Session to Deliberate and Adopt Main Agenda

The Dewan Persidangan at the Dewan Majlis Building once again acts as the venue of the First Meeting of the 15th Session of the Legislative Council.

Held every March, the Legislative Council convenes to deliberate on and adopt the main agenda, which is the Annual Supply Bill for every ministry and government department before the end of the Financial Year on every 31st of March. Apart from the annual budget, the Legislative Council Meeting will also deliberate matters which are relevant and significant to the citizens and country as per the desire of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the members of the Legislative Council to utilise the meeting as a channel for the members to raise ideas as well as propose matters that can bring about huge changes to the country and people.

At the First Meeting of the 14th Legislative Council Session last year, the Council has approved a budget of 5 point 3 million dollars for the Financial Year 2018-2019. The 12 day meeting was themed, 'Productive and Innovative Expenditure to Maintain the Country's Prosperity', with the government expenditure priorities directed to 5 main focus namely prudent spending, establishing job opportunities and capacity building, enhancing national productivity through innovation, facilitating business and maintaining public well-being.

As in previous years, the First meeting of the 15th Legislative Council Session will certainly among other matters focus on the expenditure, project and initiative priorities to be implemented, as well as budget allocations that will be provided in upholding the national budget theme for the Financial Year 2019-2020. The allocation will become the heart in driving the national development engine. It will enable the country to not only be able to plan, but also to bring about development, specifically in ensuring that the welfare of the people and country is always protected. This will be more meaningful if every issue raised and proposals forwarded in the meeting are truly in line with national development requirements, and at the same time, taking into account the well-being of the country's citizens and residents.
