Legislative Council Meeting Scheduled For 24 February 2022

The official opening ceremony of the first meeting of the 18th session of the Legislative Council will be held on Thursday, 24th of February 2022 at the Dewan Majlis Building. The official opening ceremony of the first meeting of the 18th session of the Legislative Council will be officiated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Brunei Darussalam with a titah marking the start of the first meeting of the 18th session of the Legislative Council.

The meeting will be chaired by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council; and assisted by Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Judin bin Haji Asar, Clerk to the Legislative Council and Dayang Rose Aminah binti Haji Ismail, Deputy Clerk to the Legislative Council. The meeting will discuss and approve the 2022 Supply Bill for 2022/2023, which will go through three levels before being adopted and gazetted for use starting 1st of April 2022.

The Legislative Council Meeting is entering its 18th year since its re-establishment in 2004, has been a platform for Members of Legislative Council as representatives as well as the public’s ‘voice’ in highlighting national issues and debating key strategic issues in researching and contributing ideas to Government policies for the benefit and welfare of the citizens and the country. The 36 members comprises Ex-Officio Members; Titled Persons; Persons Who Have Achieved Distinction; and District Representatives from the Districts of Brunei Darussalam. The meeting this year is open to a limited capacity. The daily recordings can be watched on RTB Perdana and RTB Sukmaindera at 9 in the evening for the morning session and at 10:40 at night for the afternoon session.
