Malaysian National Found Deceased Near Brunei-Malaysia Border

Bandar seri begawan: A Malaysian national who was reported missing near the Brunei Darussalam-Malaysia border on March 17, 2026, has been found deceased in the vicinity of the Ulu Temburong River on March 25, 2026. The Ministry of Defence stated that the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) initiated a search operation on March 19 in the Ulu Temburong River area.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the victim was a member of the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia. He was engaged in border demarcation work along the border between Brunei and Malaysia.

The search operation involved multiple Brunei security agencies, including the Special Task Platoon, Royal Brunei Land Forces, Royal Brunei Air Force, C Company Police Reserves, Royal Brunei Police Force, and the Gurkha Security Unit.

The victim was discovered after seven days of intensive search efforts. Following the discovery, the RBAF executed a recovery operation using an RBAF helicopter to transport the victim to Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The remains were later handed over to Malaysian authorities in Miri, Sarawak.
