Measure That Should Be Taken During and After Flood

Following the flood incidents that inundated several areas throughout the country, the Ministry of Health advises the public especially those residing at the affected areas to prioritise safety and take precautionary measures to prevent any incidents, injuries as well as communicable diseases including food, air or vector-borne diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, food poisoning, dengue, Japanese Encephalitis and others.

Among the measures that should be taken during and after floods include:

* Ensuring that the water supply is clean and uncontaminated

* Boil drinking water first, or consume bottled water

* Obtain treatment if experiencing fever, stomach ache, diarrhea, vomiting and others

* Obtain treatment at nearby health centres immediately for wounds that are exposed to flood waters

* For patients who are prescribed with medication, ensure that the medicine supply is sufficient

* Prioritise self-cleanliness - wash hands with soap and clean water after using the toilet

* Ensure that there is no stagnant water that can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes

* Maintain cleanliness at residential and surrounding areas - avoid simply disposing rubbish and ensure that drains and water channels are not clogged with rubbish, mud and tree branches

* Prioritise safety especially among children so that they are not exposed to flood water to avoid any incidents, and

* Avoid touching or approaching any inundated electric cables
