A total of 12 boat race events will be completed this Sunday, 25th of August during Regatta Brunei Darussalam 2019 in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 73rd Birthday Celebration. The competition will take place at Royal Wharf in the capital. This matter was shared during a media conference held this afternoon at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The media conference was chaired by Awang Mohd Amir Hairil bin Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary for Safety, Welfare and Law at the Ministry of Home Affairs as Co-Chairperson of Regatta Brunei Darussalam 2019 Executive Committee.
Haji Sueb Rizal bin Haji Abdul Malek, Grade Two Special Duties Officer as Co-Secretary of Regatta Brunei Darussalam 2019 Executive Committee explained that among the categories competed include 20-paddler fibre glass boats inter-districts and 25-paddler inter-ministry traditional boat racing. The one thousand metre race will begin from Brunei Arts and Handicraft Centre building and ended in front of the Royal Wharf. While the two thousand metre will flag off nearby the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha bridge and ended at in front of the Royal Wharf. Whereas the 5 thousand metre will start from Pulau Sibungur and ended at the Royal Wharf.
Meanwhile, Awang Ajman bin Haji Meludin, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Safety and Welfare at the Ministry of Home Affairs as Deputy Co-Chairperson of Regatta Brunei Darussalam 2019 Executive Committee explained that the Bandarku Ceria activities on the said date are limited. The cycling activities in the capital to the roundabout at the Prime Minister's Office will be temporarily stopped. The sale booths will only be permitted along Jalan Pemancha and Jalan Pretty. Roads at the capital will be open as usual, while several roads will be supervised for the event. Several public facilities will be provided for the public including surau and prayer room.
Awang Lim Hock Guan, Acting Director of Fire and Rescue as Co-Chairperson of the Safety, Emergency and Public Order Working Committee for the event stressed on safety issues and reminds the public to take precautionary measures particularly to boat users. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police, Haji Azree bin Haji Abdul Manaf, Marine Police Commanding Officer as the committee of the Safety, Emergency and Public Order for the event said his side will be in charge of patrol along the venue and to ensure safety during the regatta.
An exhibition will also be held on the sidelines of the Regatta. Awang Haji Muhammad Ruzaini bin Haji Mohd Daud, Co-Secretary for Regatta Brunei Darussalam Exhibition Working Committee explained that the objective of exhibition is to attract the public, especially young generation to understand the tradition of boat racing in the country. Also present was Retired Colonel Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as Deputy Co-Chairperson of Regatta Brunei Darussalam's 2019 Executive Committee.
