The Ministry of Health is giving serious attention on mental health in the country, and will always continue their efforts in strengthening mental healthcare system, making it more innovative, effective and proactive. Therefore, the Ministry Health will open the Talian Harapan 145 Pilot Service with the aim to provide advice or counselling in handling situations or pressure that can cause mental or emotional disruption. Speaking at the Talian Harapan 145 Pilot Service media conference, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health explained that the ministry would stress on the importance of giving support and respect to individuals who are experiencing mental health issues.
The Minister of Health added that cooperation from all stakeholders should be improved in tackling mental health issues, and reduce suicide incidents in the country. Yang Berhormat said offering help to family members, friends or colleagues or encourage them to call Talian Harapan 145 will make a huge difference for those who have mental health issues.
The Pilot service that began today is an emotional support service to the public through the phone. The 'Talian Harapan 145' will be managed by trained mental health professionals from the Ministry of Health. The pilot service is open from 8 in the morning to 11 at night, and it will be monitored from time to time. No charges will be made for calling the line, and the caller's personal information will be made confidential.
