Meeting Between Asean Leaders and American Business Leaders

ASEAN and the U.S. have embarked on numerous initiatives such as the ASEAN-U.S. Energy Cooperation Work Plan 2021-2025 and the ASEAN-U.S. Climate Future Initiative. According to the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework, ACRF, adopted in 2020 at the 37th ASEAN Summit, emphasized on the importance of sustainable energy and the promotion of green growth to boost the region’s economy.

Speaking as Brunei Darussalam’s representative at the Meeting between ASEAN Leaders and American Business Leaders at the The Willard InterContinental, Washington DC, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, shared that ASEAN has introduced a few initiatives to align the region’s capital markets with the sustainability agenda such as the adoption of the ASEAN Green Bonds Standards and ASEAN Sustainability Bonds Standards as well as the endorsement of the regional taxonomy for sustainable finance.

Yang Berhormat is of the view that there is an opportunity to mobilise private capital to finance the green transition. He explained that ASEAN has been active in promoting a conducive ecosystem to attract sustainable investments and financing. In this regard, U.S. businesses can play an important role and be the enabler in channelling the critical investments, required expertise and technology transfer to ASEAN Member States. The Meeting discussed on issues related to ASEAN-US Post Pandemic Economic Futures particularly on Energy, Climate and Digitalisation.
