Mention of Baby Abandoning Case

An Indonesian national, Desi Thania was brought to the High Court yesterday on a charge of abandoning a new-born baby who was found deceased under a bridge in Jalan Kota Batu more than four months ago. The 19-year old accused is believed to be the baby's mother.

During the mention of the case, the High Court Judge adjourned the case to enable the Public Prosecutor to study all the facts of the case. Desi Thania is charged with committing the offence on the 7th of last August. The case is being investigated under Section 308 Bracket 'A', Chapter 22 of the Penal Code and is liable to a 10 year imprisonment and fine. The investigation is carried out by the Women and Child Abuse Criminal Investigation Unit, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force. The next mention of the case will be at 9.30 in the morning on the 22nd of this month.
