Brunei Darussalam has successfully achieved and maintained the immunization coverage rate of more than 95 percent for the past 5 years, through the implementation of the National Immunization Programme with the cooperation of various relevant stakeholders including parents and guardians. According to the Minister of Health, this achievement has met the target of immunization coverage rate among children set by the World Health Organisation of at least 90 percent.
Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Dr Hj Mohd Isham Bin Jaafar, in his message in conjunction with World Immunization Week 2018, stressed on the need for continuous immunization coverage as the immunization programme has proven to save lives and been able to change lives towards a higher quality and brighter future, towards an immune future generation to prevent communicable diseases; on which is mentally and physically healthy, active, productive and at the same time creating a healthy community in the future.
In this regard, Yang Berhormat urged all parents to take their responsibilities seriously in ensuring that their children receive complete vaccination according to the set schedule and to use the facilities provided by the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through Clinic and Health Centres nationwide. Yang Berhormat said that the Ministry of Health hopes for concerted support and proactive involvement from various relevant stakeholders and parties to together be responsible and committed towards further enhancing the level of health in the country. By together ensuring that families and communities receive proper vaccine, the country can achieve the 'Protected Together, #VaccinesWork'.
The World Immunization Week is celebrated every 24th of April annually with the objective to raise awareness and encourage individuals, families and societies to play their active roles in helping to reduce global diseases that can be prevented through vaccination. This year's celebration themed 'Protected Together, #VaccinesWork' stresses on the importance of integrated action in together ensuring every individual is protected from preventable diseases through vaccination, and to increase the country's immunization coverage for the benefit of all parties.
