Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs explained on the measures taken by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to curb the COVID-19 outbreak. This includes extending the temporary closure of all mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide until the 30th of this month.
The Minister of Religious Affairs said that by the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the temporary closure of mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide will be extended for another week starting Tuesday, the 24th of March 2020 until Monday, the 30th of March 2020 as a precautionary measure to avoid risks that can affect lives. This was following a review conducted by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB based on the advice and latest information from the Ministry of Health. The call of prayer will continue as normal, and mosque officers are to work as usual. The minister added that prior to the end of the temporary closure period, a review will be conducted. Meanwhile, the ongoing mosque cleaning works will be completed during this period to ensure that the facilities are clean and safe for use.
